In 2021, the popular Kia Sorento SUV ventures into new territory to introduce its fourth generation. This generational update brings bold changes to the Sorento’s dimensions, size, features, and abilities. At Rusty Wallace Kia in Louisville, our sales reps want to show off the Sorento’s improvements to you so that you can pick out the right SUV for your needs from our extensive inventory.

Performance

When you compare base powertrains between the 2020 and 2021 Sorento, you will find that the latest model’s engine is slightly more powerful. This is a four-cylinder, 2.5-liter engine that puts out 191 horsepower. For the first time, the Sorento’s base transmission is an eight-speed auto transmission in the 2021 model year. The V6 engine available in the 2020 Sorento has been replaced with a turbo 2.5-liter, four-cylinder engine. With 281 horsepower, it is slightly more potent than the old V6. The turbo engine is linked to a dual-clutch eight-speed auto transmission. Also, the 2021 Sorento is available with a hybrid engine that produces 227 net horsepower and a plug-in hybrid engine that gives you 261 net horsepower.

Appearance

The updates to the Sorento extend across the exterior. For 2021, the Sorento has a longer wheelbase. This affects the exterior style as well as the available space in the cabin. You will also notice that 2021 Sorento is both modern and rugged with its redesigned grille and lights. The headlights are underscored by a dramatic LED light ribbon that angles toward the grille. The fog lamps are now integrated with the lower-front air vent. Also, the 2021 Kia Sorento’s sides are deeply contoured with firm, lean lines.

Features

Throughout both model years, you can appreciate a slew of modern features across the trim levels. These include leather material, Apple CarPlay, a Harman Kardon sound system, assistive safety features, and Android Auto. The restyled dashboard in the 2021 Sorento has a butterfly-like design that holds the air vents and climate management controls. This unit sits underneath the large display screen. The center console and instrumentation panel have also been redesigned with modern functionality in mind.
